RVA Standards & Accreditation – summary

RVA membership represents a commitment to excellence and accountability across New Zealand’s retirement living sector.

All Village Members are required to meet and maintain the RVA Standards of the Association, which set performance expectations above the minimum legislative requirements.

Villages undergo regular accreditation audits by RVA-approved agencies to confirm compliance with the Retirement Villages Act, the Code of Practice, and RVA’s best-practice guidelines.

Accreditation ensures residents, regulators, and the public can trust that every RVA member operates with professionalism, transparency, and care.

Membership terms – summary

RVA membership runs from 1 April – 31 March each year and renews automatically unless cancelled in writing before renewal. Fees are invoiced upon approval and pro-rated for new members joining part-way through the year.

Village Members must comply with the Retirement Villages Act, the Code of Practice, and the RVA Standards of the Association. All applications are approved by the RVA Executive Committee, and membership benefits begin once payment is received.

Membership fees are non-refundable once the renewal year begins. Overdue accounts may result in suspended benefits, and only current members may display the RVA logo.
