The RVA has a Disciplinary Authority who is responsible for hearing complaints against member villages which have failed to comply with the Code of Practice, or which consistently fail their audits, or behave in such a manner so as to bring the industry into disrepute. Complaints may be brought by other RVA members or associates, the auditing agency, the statutory supervisor, a member of the public, a resident or their family, or brought by the Executive Committee itself. In dealing with a complaint, the rules of natural justice must be followed.
The Authority is chaired by Dr. the Hon John Priestly QC. Dr Priestley is a retired High Court judge who specialised in Family Law matters.
